AI Features
Jotaid uses AI to augment your thinking — not replace it. Every AI feature runs on your own API key, and your data is never used for training.

AI is a Pro feature and needs a provider key. See AI Setup to configure it first.
Smart Node & Suggestions
Two distinct things, often confused:
- Smart Node — an AI-assisted way to create a concept node from the + menu, instead of starting blank.
- Semantic suggestions — AI finds links you might have missed between existing notes. These appear in a node's detail view and as node-to-node pairs. See Potential Links.
Auto Title & Tags
When you create a note, AI can automatically:
- Generate a descriptive title based on your content
- Suggest relevant tags from your existing tag vocabulary
This is on by default and can be toggled in Settings → AI.
Theme Summaries
Select a Theme and let AI analyze all the notes within it. The summary pulls out:
- Key insights across your notes
- Open questions and directions
- Connections between ideas
Node Enrichment
Ask AI to expand a concept node with generated content — a useful way to flesh out a stub idea into something you can build on.
Tidy Up
Clean up the formatting of the current note in one step (⇧⌘F) — consistent headings, spacing, and Markdown structure, without changing your meaning.
Explain Relationships
In the co-occurrence matrix, AI can interpret why two notes are strongly related, turning a bright cell into a plain-language explanation.
AI Chat
An AI chat panel is available alongside the editor (toggle with ⇧⌘B) so you can think out loud without leaving your notes.
Privacy
- Your API key is stored locally in the system Keychain
- Note content is sent only to the provider you configure, only when you trigger a feature
- No data is collected or used for training
