Capturing Ideas
The fastest thought is the one you never lose. Jotaid gives you several ways to capture ideas the moment they strike — then organize them later.
Quick Note
Quick Note is a lightweight capture window for jotting something down without leaving what you're doing.
- macOS: Press ⇧⌘J (Shift + Command + J) anywhere in the app to toggle the floating Quick Note window. It keeps your draft even if it loses focus, so you can glance away and come back.
- iOS: Quick Note is the screen you land on at launch. Its Save and New Note button saves the current note and immediately clears for the next — built for capturing several thoughts in a row.
Everything you capture lands in your Inbox by default, so you never have to decide where it goes up front.
TIP
Add tags as you write in Quick Note to make notes easier to find and cluster later.
Share Extension (iOS)
Send text, images, or a URL into Jotaid from any other app using the iOS Share Sheet:
- Select text or an image, or share a link, in Safari, Notes, Photos, or any app
- Tap Share → Jotaid
- Add anything in the quick compose screen, then save — it becomes a new note in your Inbox
This is the fastest way to clip an article quote, a screenshot, or a research link without switching apps.
Templates
Starting from a blank page is hard. Jotaid ships with six built-in templates to give structured thinking a head start:
| Template | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Literature | Capturing and summarizing a paper or article |
| Decision | Weighing options and recording the call you made |
| Problem Framing | Defining a problem before jumping to solutions |
| Insight | Recording a single sharp observation |
| Weekly Review | Reflecting on the week's progress |
| Brainstorm | Rapid idea generation |
Templates appear on the empty-note page — pick one to create a pre-structured note.
Tags
Tags are lightweight labels for grouping notes across projects and themes. Add them while writing, and use the filter menu to narrow any list down to a single tag.
Tags are different from Nodes — a tag is a simple category, while a Node is a concept with its own content. See Backlinks & Graph for more.
