The free tier is genuinely useful on its own, and Pro unlocks the power features when you're ready. Everything you buy unlocks the same Pro feature set — you just choose how to pay.
The Free Tier

- The Inbox — an always-free home for your notes
- The full Markdown editor with live highlighting and preview
- Backlinks, the knowledge graph, and the co-occurrence matrix

What Pro Unlocks
Pro is for people who organize across many topics and want AI in the loop:

Bring Your Own Key
Pro unlocks the AI capability; the AI itself runs on your own provider API key. Unlock Pro first, then add your key — see AI Setup.
How to Pay
When you open the unlock screen you'll see two options that unlock the identical Pro:
- Yearly subscription — the primary option, billed once a year
- One-time purchase — buy once, yours forever, no recurring fee
Pricing is shown live from the App Store in your region and currency, so the amounts you see in-app are always the real, current prices. Pick whichever suits you.
Already a Jotaid User?
If you bought Jotaid before the free tier existed, you may already be unlocked. Open the unlock screen and tap Restore Purchase to check — restoring is also how you re-activate Pro on a new device.
Canvas for Locked Projects
Free users can still open and read a project that needs Pro — you can zoom, pan, and view notes. Only editing (moving cards, regrouping, changing content) prompts you to unlock. Your notes always stay visible.
